Urgl in the first film

In the first film, Urgl is played by Patricia Hayes.

Urgl is frequently called a "wench" by her husband.

She is first shown making batwing broth, which she makes with eye of newt, tree mold, old lizard brains, scales from a rancid sea serpent, and flavored with organically-grown sandworms.

When Atreyu awakens and goes inside the gnomes' home, Urgl feeds him the batwing broth and predicts exactly what Engywook is going to say about the scientific community.

Urgl takes Engywook uphill to a vantage point to witness the Sphinx Gate, while Atreyu follows him. Meanwhile, Urgl injects Falkor with a large needle, causing him to scream out in pain.

Urgl playfully condescends Engywook falling out of the bucket in excitement after Atreyu passes the gate.

The NeverEnding Story III: Escape from Fantasia (1994)[]

In the third film, Urgl is played by Moya Brady.

She is first shown making Engywook's favorite food: frog and lizard puree soup.

Physical description[]

Urgl wears a bonnet and brown robes, similar to a monk's habit, both made with withered leaves.

She is described in the novel:

It was the wrinkliest, shriveledest face [Atreyu] had ever seen, and only about the size of a fist. It was as brown as a baked apple, and the eyes in it glittered like stars.
